The exam is a two part exam. Can I wait awhile to take the second part so I can study more for that half. Or do they only give you a certain amount of time before you either have to take the first one over again or do you have to take the second one in a certain time frame

Unsolved Taking the A+ Exam

Great question! You absolutely can take your time on the second exam if you choose. Most self-study folk try not to let too much time lapse in between because it's easy to lose focus. Once you've achieved the first part, you want to get the second one to give you the CompTIA A+ certification.
The only time limit is that the certification itself is not a lifetime certification, it's only for 3 years. This is about the industry standard as well. You normally must renew before your certification expires.
The link that follows will provide details on that procedure.
