Im wondering how this product works in regards to VM IPs? when making the actual switch to the DR site would the IPs change? and how would clients connect to these servers on a different site?

You've got two choices: "To customize IP settings or not to customize IP settings" in the SRM.
- If you don't customize IP settings of VMs (Default). SRM will use the IP settings you set for the DR site for the recovery or test move of that VM from site to the DR (production to DR--use DR IPs for each VM). SRM will use IP settings of the production site for recovery or test move of VM from DR to production (DR to production--use production IP for each VM)
- If you customize IP settings of a VM, you can do this for production site and DR. This customization overrides the default settings when moving from DR to production.

When you setup the SRM, You'll setup the address that you'll want clients to connect (this is a virtualized IP). The clients will probably connect to this address regardless of what IP address the VMs have in VMWare.
I've asked Adam Gordon to also chime in on this too. so hopefully soon you'll have the VMWare ZenMaster with an answer, real answer!

Great Thanks for the information, Would NSX be a great benefit for automatic failover or would it be an overkill for 1 site (1 - Production site and 1 - Recovery Site)?

I would take a look at the Hands-on Lab: VMware NSX Multi-Site Disaster Recovery with SRM link on the landing page as a good example of what can be done.
You are never too small to benefit from this kind of technology, the question is really more a matter of cost of acquisition and implementation vs. the ROI for recovery.
