I've been studying for the CSA+ for about two months now. The resources I've been using are the videos here, a book I bought from Amazon, taking notes, flash cards and Certmaster exams from CompTIA. I've noticed in the videos the hosts are extremely vague about most of the material, "You don't need to know details about X framework, just know that it exists." From what I'm seeing on the Certmaster and Transcender exams we're going to be asked very detailed questions about all of the subject matter. I took my first one today and scored a 67%!
Unfortunately there are exactly two books on the exam so our resources are extremely limited. Does anyone have any other sources or information we can use for this exam?

Unsolved CSA+ Material too vague???

Hey Chris,
These are great questions/concerns and I hope to shed some light on this for you. First,
When it comes to the practice exams:
1- You actually did very well for your first time through. Here is what I mean, when an exam candidate takes the practice test for the first time we typically expect that person to get 40-50%, so in getting a 67% you have done well. I know that is not what you want to get as you have been working very hard studying.
2- The practice exams are meant to be extremely difficult, so the exam candidate will study even harder to get more understanding of the topics.
3- Try not to use up the bank of questions as one you have been exposed to the answers these question fail to test your knowledge of the topics.
4- Use all answers to study from, as the wrong answers are important as well, they can show you additional topics that you might not have been familiar with. You can use them to help in other areas by understanding why the right answer is right and why the wrong answers are wrong.
5- Try not to memorize just questions with their answers as that doesn't help to learn the topic. If the question is reworded then there is a good chance that the exam candidate will not get the answer on the exam right.
6- In your post practice exam score look at the domains that you are weak and study them first. These are some of tips to taking the practice exams that can help raise your level of knowledge in areas that you are weak.
Below I have included some of the additional study materials that you can utilize to prepare for the exam:

That makes me feel a bit better. I'll definitely use your tips as I continue to study. Thank you for the reply.

I found the content here a bit vague as well:
-
The content is a little vague but it will suffice for the exam. I just passed CSA+ yesterday and found the videos on reviewing log content very helpful as I my background is mostly in system administration in the DoD sector. I viewed around 70% of the videos selecting what I thought would be relevant. The ones on the security tools, vulnerability scanning, and practical application stood out the most to me. I also read through the Sybex book by Mike Chapple once and went through the Transcender exams and flash cards a few times. I think I may have been around 60% my first time through after reading the Sybex book. It was a little discouraging but I just kept plucking away. I did pretty poorly on the Sybex practice and bonus quiz as well. The Transcender quizzes are great due to the feedback you get from the explanations. The labs were instrumental as well! I scored a 772 so it was close but I only studied for a good 2.5-3 weeks directly after passing CCNA. Watch the videos, do the labs, and get the Sybex book and you'll have all you need. I hope this helps and good luck!
