If I put on OSPF MD5 authentication before letting the adjacency form, it seems like it never forms. I put the router ospf 1 and interface commands on the hub router in hub and spoke design. They I put the interface commands on the spokes. The adjacency never forms in OSPF. I have to remove all authentication first. Let it form than add it after to get it to work. Did I miss something in the videos?

Solved OSPF MD5 authentication question

Check and see what
debug ip ospf adj
reports on both routers. What error does it report?
just on a side note, I always like to do a shutdown/no shutdown on the interface when things I've configured on the interface are not working the way I expected them too.

I did not see anything on adj or packet when I had MD5 configured first. I removed it from the interfaces. I got the adjacency to form and then could do authentication. I will go back and put it in. Save the VIRL simulation. Stop and restart it to gather the debugs.

I'm not sure you'll see OSPF authentication without the OSPF adjacency forming. Logically, it make sense since there is no reason to have it without having OSPF in place. The lightbulb moment for me is when I asked you to run the debug and it returned to you nothing because there were no
ospf adj packets
without the adjacency. It's what i get for answering when I'm tired sometimes.

@ronnie-wong I know how you feel. I have a 2 year old, who gets me up 2-3x a night. March 9th, our son arrives. So what little sleep I get will be gone. I will be 52 this year..

I have less than 4 weeks to get my studying done. I would love to get the exam done before I am off for 3 weeks with my wife and children. I doubt I will get much studying done during those three weeks.

agreed! You can do it!

Ronnie, Thanks for taking time out to help me. I do appreciate it. I wish the VIRL team at Cisco Learning Network responded like you do. I do recommend your site to other people.

I usually stop the simulation and save to restart everything clean.

glad you're a member as well. It takes us a little time but this week I'm preparing for a reshoot of our CCENT show so I'm a little more available than normal.

I am glad you refresh the videos. CCENT was not a hard exam. ICND2 videos need more work on the simulation side.
-
We're reshooting them all to keep them "fresh" and preparing for the day when Cisco decides to update the exam objectives!

I wish they would do more Routing & Switching and less Cisco marketing.
