I was watching Manage and Configure Databases, Ep 2 and when I went to do the encryption command using the CLI I got an error that my version doesn't support encryption? I'm running Microsoft SQL Server 2014 (64-bit).
Manage and Configure Databases - Cannot encrypt
Microsoft SQL Server 2014 (64-bit)
Good evening, I hope all is well. The short answer is that encryption is supported in SQL 2014. I am not exactly sure what you are trying to do, as there are several different types of encryption that can be enabled for / with SQL.
The following URL is the main landing page for SQL encryption, and will give you guidance on options and approaches:
It is possible that the command(s) are being entered incorrectly?, are misspelled? that you might not have permissions required to execute?
My point is that there are several possibilities that may explain what is happening. Is there a specific error syntax and code that you can share? or is just what you have indicated in your message?
If there is a specific error, can you provide it exactly so we can take a quick look and see if it will help us to figure this out?
You can feel free to e-mail me directly if that is easier: firstname.lastname@example.org
