Do you cover hidden admin shares on any of the Microsoft cert classes?
My boss that seems to think he knows it all called the share$ a shortcut and corrected me ; telling me no those are shortcut shares not hidden shares.

Is just some thing That I learned about back in the Windows 3.1 work group days and though every good admin would know this was the facts.

Hidden admin shares

Yes they do. I don't remember which ones in particular, but remember them discussing it at least two or three times throughout the MCSA series.

Laurence,
I've not be keeping up, as I've been on assignment. I'm sure, as James stated, we've mentioned it. But you're right they are hidden shares that end with the $. This is more about obscurity than security. You can view these share by using computer management console and clicking on Shared Folders and then Shares. You'll notice some of the default shares created by Windows.
