Hi Ronnie. I've been watching your 2017 Microsoft Office 365 - 70-346 videos. Great job.
I have a quick question. To be able to synchronize Active Directory on-premises to Office 365, does the on-prem "domain name" have to be the same exact name as the Office 365 domain name?
Or, can these domain names be different?
If the domain names can be different, are there any pros and cons of having 2 different domain names?
Thanks.

Usually they're the same...but you can run a different subdomain internally on premise if you choose. But it means you may have to do some additional AD setup. I believe I cover this ...I can't remember if it was in the 346 or 347 series though.
Any advantage? Not necessarily advantage as much as a "shim" result. Let's say that you're ready for O365 but not completely yet. you still have a department that isn't ready...then leaving them as is for now may be the reason to do so..then transitioning later.

Tracy,
I hope all is well. Just a quick item to give you a resource that will help you put all the great information that Ronnie has jammed into the shows into practice, as some of the technology has updated, and you want to be sure to make the right choices when setting up sync in a production environment.
Take a look at the following: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/enterprise/office-365-integration
It will give you a good overview, as well as follow-on links to any material that you may have questions about.
Cheers,
Adam
