I have thousands of files spread over a number of drives and operating systems. Some of the files are duplicates.
The files are a mix of documents, music, video, pictures, programs, etc.
I need software that will look at all the drives and sort the files and eliminate the duplicates.
Any Ideas. I would pay for good software that does the job..

Allen,
Thanks for writing in. I have used several programs for de-duplication over the years. The one that worked best for me was a product called UltraCompare. It contains a duplicate detection feature that will help eliminate the duplicates and a synchronization feature that would let you combine the remaining unique files into one common repository (if desired. It's not free, but it isn't too expensive at $50. It is also cross-platform (Windows, Mac and Linux) which is nice.
Hope that helps,
