Solved CCNA Security and DoD 8570

According to the cisco site, the new CCNA (Feb 24, 2020) is going to replace the existing CCNA Security.

I don't see "Security" in the name of the new CCNA cert. That worries me as far as DoD 8570. I have always REFUSED to take CompTia exams... which is why I got CCNA Security instead. But if the new exam is going to be a culmination of all the associate cisco exams, is it going to lose the 8570 accreditation???

Not only that, if I pass the CCNA routing and switching prior to Feb 24, and I am granted the NEW CCNA, does that replace my current CCNA Security???? So I will no longer have it? So if my job happens to check on it, it will not be on record??? Or if I try to get a new job, it will no longer be on record??? I hope all this has been taken into consideration, I haven't seen anything addressing this specifically... Hopefully I just missed it????

You've got two options(If sticking with Cisco only (possibly 3 options--if willing to do other vendor exams) without any further clarification from Cisco and until they do.

• You can resit for the CCNA Security exam. This will renew it for the next 3 years...but may also show it as CCNA with Security specialization...or may require you do another exam.

• You can work towards your CCNP Security...this is covered under 8570 and

I can see no clarification upon what happens with the 8570 after 24 February 2020. I'm sure that policy will be decided upon by the DoD in the near future...but I see nothing currently.

If you choose CompTIA or any other certification that meets the 8570 requirement. You will still meet that requirement as well.

It looks like I missed something in the statement... it says "If you earn CCNA Security before February 24, then on February 24, you will keep your CCNA Security and you will receive the new CCNA certification plus a training badge."

So they will at least keep it on file as "CCNA Security" so that it can be verified... That is what I was worried about. I have only had mine for 8 months now, so I don't really want to retake it by february. What I don't understand is, being that I already have it, do I automatically get the new CCNA? ...and do i get it for 3 years, or do I get it for 2 years and 1 month at that point?
...or do I have to take it again now to get that benefit? When did that statement go into effect? I wish they would have given a date range to pass it rather than just a feb end date.

...but yeah, I am worried that CCNP Security (or higher) will be the only option (from cisco) to keep IAT level 2.

Security+ is a hard NO for me (just my personal condescending assessment of the talent level of some of the people able to pass their tests.... especially after a bootcamp... but i digress)

Yes, there's a big push by everyone to earn the current CCNA right now. You'll get the new CCNA designation and it will be good to the expiry date. If you've recently earned it it should be good to the expiry date. If you're expiry date is before 24 Feb 2020. Then I suggest you go ahead and re-sit for that exam...or take the new one and do a specialist exam after 24 Feb 2020.

So my current, 1 year old, CCNA Security will automatically transfer/earn me the new CCNA that won't expire until feb 2023 without me doing anything at all?

seems too good to be true... what if I had a CCNA that was expiring March 2020 (taking it in 2017), I would automatically get re-upped good for until 2023, on feb 24th 2020, because I have a current valid CCNA???

That seems like a lot of "cert revenue" that cisco would be giving up... Seems a little uncharacteristic (from my perspective). Unless they are really de-valuing the CCNA and making it the new CCENT.

@WU-TANG ok.... I just read some posts (comments on cisco learning network) that the expiration dates on the current certs will remain the same... That didn't come from a moderator or anything, but it seems more realistic.

One final conclusion though: it does not seem like it would be worthwhile for me to bother doing CCNA routing and Switching anymore.... being that I have CCNA Security and both of those exams are going to transfer into the new CCNA... No (official) point in earning that cert now...

I would only do the routing and switching CCNA now if you needed the depth covered in CCNA R+S.
