In the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 - 70-462 video, Don talks about a limit to the number of files in the root of an NTFS volume. I have looked around and can't find any such limits. Is this outdated information or am I just not finding the right sources? Can you provide a link to something that discusses this limit?

He recommends not placing things in the root because of a limit on items there. I don't remember the exact episode, But, since I'm only in the fourth, it has to be one of the first three. Prolly the Install and Configure episode.

It was said in the 'Manage and Configure Databases' episode at time 45:45.
Sorry for the delayed response, I was having trouble finding any information on this as well. Don is back in the office today so I checked with him. Turns out that was a little dated, in Windows 10 / Server 2016, the root folder limit is now the same as the subfolder limit. So this is something you don't have to worry about anymore. (Other than my OCD-like tendencies that would make me crazy seeing a bunch of files at the root of a drive, lol)

No problem. I can't even find anything speaking about limits in older versions but it doesn't matter. I don't expect to put much in the root. I just couldn't find any limits and wondered what I was missing. Thanks for your help.
