No experience - Where to start

Hello Everyone.

I'm Tiffani. I found ITPRO.TV about two years ago and I've played around with it every once in awhile. I finally purchased the course in hopes to learn more about computers, networking, programing ect.. Basically I'm not really sure if I started in the right place. I went with Help desk/support Job role but I feel like I am still missing information. Is there a study guide or book that will help me with some of the word terms that you recommend, or do I need to keep going and the course will explain more as I go?

Find out what is most interesting to you and follow that path.
If you are unsure of your interest Helpdesk/Support work is a common way in.
There you can find out if you like to work in a more technical or people oriented way.
Take a look at this site and remember you do not need to take all the suggested certifications in a path.

Which course did you choose to begin? If you're unsure about a career path, I recommend that you look at the CompTIA ITF+ (IT Fundamentals) course. This is like a survey course of the IT world that may help you to decide on what is most comfortable for you.

As your fellow member as posted, Entry level is Help Desk but it is essential to all of IT. As the goal of IT is not have the business exist for the network but the network to exist for the business.

If you have an idea on what you may want to pursue, for example networking but not sure if you're ready for CompTIA Network+, you may want to look to the MTA (Microsoft Technology Associate) that will help you gain some understanding of Networking in general.

Both of these are two examples that can help you to steer a bit more. Of course, you're welcome to post here and get more interaction with other Edutainers and of course the ITProTV membership, which has vast and excellent experience to share with you.

Help Desk is an underrated and unappreciated field of work in IT. Here you're on the front line of IT--interacting with the clients (customers, staff, etc). You will get frustration from those you support and at times from those you escalate to as well.

It takes a much to deal in this with a smile. In the end it makes you a better IT Professional for having done so. So with helpdesk, many times you will not stray far from "scripts" or reproducible "workflows" before troubleshooting and actually helping someone out. This has to do with the fact that at entry level, most of the scripts you follow will solve many of the problems you face. So it is a time management thing. Regardless of the nature of this, the great thing is that you'll learn troubleshooting efficiency, people engagement. Put differently, you'll learn professionalism.

Hello, so like many things there may be prerequisites that you should have before you sit for an exam. There are no prerequisites for you to watch and learn from the ITProTV courses. The way you find out about the exam prerequisites is to learn more about the exam directly from the vendor but also you can you watch the overview video to each of our certification courses to find out as well.

There is some guidance for you through member services if you're not sure where to start. Traditionally, CompTIA A+, Network+ and Security+ in that sequence are where to begin for just about any career in IT as these course provide essential knowledge any skill for any IT field you choose to work in. It is from there you can find a specialization to hone in to a particular path. It isn't that you can't just jump into any course you choose but it is more challenging to move through some of the concepts without the essential knowledge.
