Course: Intro to WordPress Development: Can you recommend a book?

I have been watching Course: Intro to WordPress Development. Frank's examples are not always completely on the screen to do. Any good books on Wordpress plugin development.

I was able to parse out the EXIF information on date taken of a picture. I want to write a plugin to upload a picture by date taken and put it into a gallery.

There are two books that are considered the best in this area. I took a look at the first one recently and it certainly seems comprehensive for this, but be sure to check them both out.
