Are you developing a new CompTIA Server+ SK0-005 Course, Labs & Practice Exam(s)?

Hello,

Your old CompTIA Server+ SK0-004 course will be depreciated by CompTIA in Dec 2021 and replaced by the newer CompTIA Server+ SK0-005 exam. The newer Server+ exam changes the focus towards servers on the cloud as well as more virtual machine (VMs), etc. Since Microsoft has stopped their MCSAs and other exams and moved totally towards their cloud Azure platform for new certifications, it would appear that the newer CompTIA Server+ exam is the best overall agnostic type of server certification from my perspective (if there are other server certs out there that I am unaware of, please let me know in your reply).

So the question is if (when?) will ITProTV develop the following for the newer CompTIA Server+ SK0-005 exam:

1. A full video tutorial course?

2. A set (or at least one) Server+ practice exam(s)?

3. A Server+ virtual lab (so we can practice via hands on the theory of the video course)?

@Robert-Thompson-0 great question, we are currently in the process of prep work to start recording Server+ SK0-005 content (Video content). The recording should start within the next two weeks.

Thank you very much for the lighting fast reply. I am very happy to learn that ITProTV is going to develop a new CompTIA Server+ SK0-005 video tutorial course. Do you have a "guesstimated" date when you opine the new video course will be released?

What about the virtual labs for the above course, i.e., will you be developing one, and if so, by what guesstimated date?

Finally, what about the practice exam(s) for the above course, i.e., same question as the 2nd paragraph above?

P.S. Whom will be the instructor(s) within ITProTV teaching the above video tutorial course? Do you happen to have a rough idea insofar as how many total hours the video tutorial course will be as well?

I will be the instructor for the SK0-005 content. When it comes to the labs, our platform is Practice Labs and do not have any info on the delivery timeline for the new Server+ lab content, however you can reach out to them if you would like via https://skills.practice-labs.com/. On the topic of practice exams this is a third party provider that develops and updates that content, so I am unaware as to if or when they will have that content available.

I have written to Practice Labs concerning this question and when (if ??) I hear back from them concerning their expected release date for the newer CompTIA Server+ SK0-005 virtual lab I will reply to this posting so that you and others will know as well.

Finally, do you happen to have a "guesstimated" release date (target date you're shooting for) insofar as the release date of the video course you're the instructor of for the newer CompTIA Server+ SK0-005 course?

While it is of interest to know that you'll start the recording of the new CompTIA Server+ SK0-005 video tutorial course in the next couple of weeks, I'm far more interested as to when (estimated date) you actually project that you'll be releasing the video tutorial for members of ITProTV. Can you please provide that estimated date?

Also, as promised, I have written to Practice-Labs with respect to the issue of their potentially developing a virtual lab for the newer CompTIA Server+ SK0-005 exam, and as you can see via the below screenshot of their email reply to me, they are NOT planning on developing such a virtual lab.

Based on this fact, I kindly request that you add labs in your upcoming new video course tutorial for this new exam using either a Type I or Type II hypervisor, e.g., VirtualBox, ESXi, etc. After all, one doesn't learn how to ride a bike via studying the theory of riding a bike, they really learn by riding the bike and the same is true IMO for learning a new concept, e.g., cloud and conventional servers in keeping with the CompTIA exam objectives.

Course completions are dependent on filming schedules, and we don't have an estimated completion date for the video trainings to be released as Wes has noted the course has not yet begun filming. Once the course begins filming, you will be able to opt in for notifications of completion via the dashboard or by contacting us via email. As for lab development, Practice Labs is our provider of labs and we will note that you are interested in seeing these labs developed in the future when we next meet with the team at Practice Labs. In fact the method of testing will be both academic and performance-based. We will need PracticeLabs or a quality provider to present labs inside the ITPROTV domain.

The video course has already been released and I opened it up. Still no labs are offered. If there will not be labs, it seems that ITPROTV can not properly meet all the exam objectives.

In that case, will we need to procure labs separately?
If that is the case, maybe it's time to evaluate training providers.

Hi Brian, I, too, was looking into the SK0-005 labs. It's unfortunate the labs are currently unavailable to use. However, I found this book "CompTIA Server+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, Second Edition (Exam SK0-005), 2nd Edition queue By Daniel Lachancey" that offers hands-on lab experience. They teach you to use Tier 2 Hypervisor, and how to install Server 2019 and Ubuntu server.

I purchased three exams last year, and one of them was Server+, and I didn't realize there was a transition between 004 and 005. Now I have to learn 005, and my exam code expires at the end of February. Most of the servers I have had to deal with have been between 2008-2016. I recall they had hands-on labs for SK0-004. It might not be the same but hands-on is hands-on.

@wes-bryan I just wanted to say: Thank you for teaching. I was studying for SK0-004 and didn't realize that it was expiring in early Jan 2022. Unfortunately, I wasn't going to be able to take the test in time. I had to switch over to SK0-005. The second, your SK0-005 course became live I hustled and started studying, And re-learning the new course. I passed on February 22nd. Thank you again to you and the team for providing up-to-date information.
