Is the old model of a on-prem "domain controller / AD" dead?

Hello Wes / Ronnie et al,

I was reading the following document: (https://jumpcloud.com/lp/technical-guide-the-fall-of-active-directory-and-the-rise-of-the-domainless-enterprise) concerning the eventual death of the old fashioned domain controller / AD model and it being replaced by a SSO authentication model for remote workers instead (you can download the PDF document from the aforementioned URL link).

I would like to get Wes' (and others) opinions on this topic / idea and if it indeed has merit (or not).

I think it's just going to be situational for most folks. At my current position in the government sector I can confidently say we aren't getting rid of them anytime soon. From what I have heard from my friends in the industry is that a hybrid deployment is the way to go for now.
