So I have been researching this topic because of all the storms of lately, and I'm not sure if it helps or only helps with cross over? Can anyone shed some more light on this for me?

Does Shielded ethernet cable protect against lighting?

Hey @Michael-Coleman the cables are not protected from lightning, this is why in areas such as outdoor walkways with awnings they might run a fiber optic line. However, that does not mean that you cannot protect your Ethernet runs. You can use one of these:

RJ45 Lightning Suppressors can offer some amount of protection.
