Static routing with more than two routers

Hi Guys, I've watched your CCENT course and I have a question about static routing from the episode called "IP Routing Technologies".

In that episode you explain static routing with two routers, but what happens when you have three or more?
Is it possible to add a static route to Router 1 that points all the way over to router 4 (the destination), or can each router only route as far as the next. i.e. you need to manually add routes to the neighboring router all the way to the destination and back. I assume each router doesn't know about routers that it can't see so it won't work, but I just wanted to be clear.

You have to remember the purpose of the routing is to provide the best path to the destination network. Then you need to understand what the router does to achieve that goal. A router builds a path by telling the NEXT HOP (next Router) to get data to the destination. But a router doesn't tell another router how to do its job. So if you're choosing to use static routing, you will have to manually configure each router along to the path to destination. As well as provide the static routing path back to the source if you're expecting returning data.
