I am having this really weird issue where I am not getting an IP address on my WAN interface in pFsense when I set it to DHCP. Is this a bug or something that I need to do to make it work? I suppose I could change the port it's pm

Unsolved WAN IP address issue in pFsense

@william-richards There could be one of a number of things wrong, and I don't profess to be a PFSense guru, I've only used it a handful of times. Could you give a bit more info about the setup. Is the PFSense device the edge device before the internet, or do you have a cable/dsl modem in between?

As Liam has said, we may need a bit more information to help you out with it. But let's start with the simple things first.
Plug another device in that network and see if you can get DHCP on that device that is not pfSense. If your pfSense box is the only device that cannot get DHCP address from that network, I would console and verify that I've properly identified the WAN port and that you're allowing it get an address from DHCP.Let us know a bit more after trying the above.

Good advice so far - my pfSense installation was made much easier because I work for the ISP that provides my DSL line. They (meaning your provider) might be best to direct your initial questions of how you are assigned public-side IP(s). As mentioned, what device connects to your ISP, and what type of Internet connection is it? pfSense does even have the abilities to "spoof" a MAC address (i.e. what could be on the cable modem to authenticate), which may be required in some situations.
