Unsolved Not all downloaded videos will play on my smart TV.

I've started downloading the ITProTV videos to my DLNA server so that I can watch them on my Vizio Smart TV. It's supposed to support mp4 videos and the "overview" videos do play back without a problem. However, none of the other videos do. They all give me a "audio codec not supported' and 'video codec not supported' message when I try to play them back on the TV.

I've run both categories of videos (those that play on the TV and those that don't) through gspot and they seem to have identical audio and video codecs. The only real difference I can see is the length of the videos. All the videos that work (the 'overviews') are less than 10 minutes. All the other videos are around 3o minutes or longer.

I can successfully play 2 hour long mp4 movies.

I've also tried converting to .avi, but no joy.

Any insight on why this may be happening would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry for the issues Ken. Is this the case with a certain set of videos or course? Last week we changed back to our previous video CDN. When were the videos downloaded?

These videos have just been downloaded. I'm a pretty new subscriber. They've all been downloaded within the past week.

The 2 coursed I've downloaded are IT fundamentals and CompTIA A+ and the problem seems to affect both courses.

It just seems really strange to me that, of the videos I've tested, all the ones with 'overview' in the title work and those without do not. Other than the overall length of the video, I can't find any other difference.

I am perplexed! LOL

Additional Info:

I copied a couple of the videos onto a USB drive and plugged it directly into the TV. They all worked!

So, I'm guessing it may have something to do with my DLNA server? (Netgear ReadyNAS Pro)

I'm going to try a wired connection between the server and the TV next. Right now they are connected wirelessly.

Update:

It does appear to be a problem with Vizio TV's. Others are having the exact same problem where the TV will play short videos but not long ones from a DLNA server. Apparently, Vizio does not have a DLNA renderer, only a DLNA player. And the player is pretty crappy.

There are several suggested fixes but none have worked for me, yet.

I'll continue to investigate/experiment and post the solution here, if I find one.
