Free Windows 10 Upgrade

I have been using Windows 7 Professional ever since it first came out. Now I have this notice that I can receive a free Windows 10 Upgrade for the first year. Do you know if I can run this upgrade without having to reinstall the entire system? I have almost 1 TB of data and programs, and do not have a convenient way of backup everything up first. I'm currently running wireless, and at the speeds I have to the router, it will literally take about 2 or 3 weeks to copy everything over to the NAS.

Upgrades typically leave all the programs and settings in place and you do not have to reinstall them. But....and there always is a but...

Things happen...power outages, HDD glitchy-ness, "ghost in the machine," electrical shorts, people spilling coffee, Housewives of some forsaken county showing up...etc. over all "snake eyes."

Ideally, a full backup before doing any upgrade is recommended for that "just in case...(any of the above) happens. I would see if I could borrow or even buy a 2.0 TB USB drive if nothing else and have it. For approx. $100,you could save your 1TB of data and apps. I think it's worth looking into!
