Mike, i built a wds server in a lab environment to do some testing. When trying to pxe boot from a pc i keep getting an error message saying "PXE-E3B: TFTP Error - File not found." Can you clarify what this means? Not sure what file it is fooking for. I have a 'boot.wim' file in the boot images folder. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Cecil,
WDS uses TFTP to send the WDS client to the PXE client. The file not found could be either because WDS doesn't have the correct permissions over the remoteInstall folder, or the file is missing. You should look for the TFTP server logs and see if you can find out what file it is having trouble finding. If it is a lab environment, and you haven't gotten too far, you could reinstall WDS, after removing it, as well as any directories that were created during the initial install. Let me know what you find and we can troubleshoot some more.

Mike, i reinstalled WDS. when the pc boots now i gets an ip address from the dhcp server and then it get stuck on "MTFTP....."
and it just sits there until it times out. Not sure what that means. Also can you tell me what permission the WDS needs over the remoteinstall folder. I dont remember seeing you do that when you were installing WDS. Also where do i find the tftp server logs?

Mike, i figured out what was causing the MTFTP to hang. I had created a dhcp scope just for the pcs' that would be using the pxe boot option. When i created the scope there was an option 43 & 66 that carried over from other active scopes on the dhcp server that was interfering with the wds tftp / pxe boot process. Once i disabled those options under the scope that i created for the pcs', everything worked fine.
