Hello – I have been watching the various Server 2012 Videos and playing around with Hyper-V in my test lab. I have now set up a two node failover cluster and migrated one of my VMs in to the Cluster (Moved VM and Storage to a CSV). I am now wondering what the best method is to backup VMs since the VM can be on any of the cluster nodes is it possible to back them up automatically through the Host Machine or even through the Cluster or am I limited to backing up the VMs from within the VM’s themselves?

Solved Hyper-V Backup when in Failover Cluster

Because Windows Server Backup is not available in a high availability cluster, the recommended solution would be to use Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager. This solution will provide the ability to backup the VMs on a high availability cluster. It would also provide other VM management capabilities. There are other 3rd party solutions as well.
