VLSM (Variable Length Subnet Masking) is basically just using different length subnet masks a single network.

For example, you have two networks and only a limited range of addresses allocated to you.
    Network A ) 500 Hosts
    Network B ) 16 Hosts

Network A has too many hosts for a typical /24 (255.255.255.0) so you instead provide it with a /23 (255.255.254.0).
Network B on the other hand doesn't have many hosts at all, so in the interest of conserving IP Addresses you might assign it a /27 (255.255.255.224).

This is basically all VSLM is, combining subnets of different sizes on the same network typically for reason's such as conserving IP's, accommodating large networks, minimising broadcast traffic, security reasons or so on.

Two issues I've noticed with Transcender

    1. The Adobe Flash based exam questions (according to the exam) only work in IE. I had issues running them in Chrome so I exited my exam, then when trying to start the exam again in Internet Explorer I encountered (recocmended by the exam question) this next issue...
    2. A concurrency error. Even though I exited the exam and webpage it still thinks I am logged on so I'm now no longer to access the Transcender practice exams. I have lodged a ticket with Transcender to have this resolved.

My advice to other users is to try do the Transcender exams in Internet Explorer to (hopefully) avoid these issues. Hopefully Trancender can fix the concurrency issue shortly (I'll keep the thread updated).

Overall I'd like to say based on my brief experience with Trancender I'm liking it more than Measureup. Thanks to the guys at ITPro TV for the great resources provided.

This isn't something that I think really matters too much for practical purposes, but I was wondering is the Hyper-V Parent VM Generation 1, 2 or neither?

Looking at what I have access to and how things work from my parent the features don't really match either, so I'm wondering if the parent is just special and not limited to a specific generation unlike the child VM's.

Hey sexy presenters and fellow students,
I'm currently nearing the end of the 410 videos and was wondering which if I should aim to just study the one MCSA exam at a time and then sit the exam, or study all 3 and do the exams one after the other (maybe spread them out just a little so I don't do 3 exams on the exact same day).
I have heard the exams have a lot of overlapping content and some of the stuff learned on 411/412 is useful on the 410 and visa versa.
Any thoughts or opinions on this?
    Kind Regards,
    Todd

I run a Plex server at home and was wondering what format the videos are in if I get the annual subscription that allows me to download the video files and how compatible those files will be with Plex (e.g. do they contain good metadata? will they be easy for the device to stream to other devices?).

    I'm currently studying the 70-410.
In one video I can see the page "http://edutainmentlive.com/itprotv/libary/mcsa70410/" is used by Nathan to view the objectives in quite a nice format. Unfortunately this page doesn't seem to be accessible to me (404).
Is there a new URL for this page?
I realise I can get the same info here: https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-au/exam-70-410.aspx
But I actually quite like the way the IT Pro guys have it laid out.

What I've found in the real world usually there's multiple admins (IT Staff) and each admin typically has their own account that they will use to manage the server/domain. This I believe is better security practice but also had other advantages, such as restricting access for some administrators and having a log of who did what and when (in event viewer).
That's just my experience though. I don't really know what kind of answer Microsoft would want to this kind of question on an exam.

Has this address changed again? The link above isn't working for me anymore.
Thanks for the previous response. Loving the site and great live stream you guys did just now a few moments ago :)
