I have been watching "managing disks in windows part 1" and when Justin opens disk manager the initialize disk dialogue box seems to open immediately. I can't get this to pop up either on my computer or on the machines in practice labs. What gives?

"Initialize disk" dialogue box

Hey @Thomas-Wright ,
Sorry to see you are having issues with opening up the "Initialize Disk" window, if I understand the issue correctly, this is a normal behavior for Disk Management. When a disk(physical or virtual) is first added to a Windows machine, the operating system needs to understand how to structure the layout of the drive (MBR vs. GPT). When the choice is made, Windows applies the partitioning scheme to the disk and once this is configured Disk Management no longer presents the user with this dialog box. If this is happening then it means the disk has already had the partitioning scheme set. However, if your are in a lab that the "expected" starting point is to manage a disk from initialization to formatted to usable then one of two things might be happening:
- The lab is preconfigured with the disk already initialized, in which case double check the lab environment you have launched. You might need to or be able to switch to a different lab.
- The lab environment is incorrectly preconfigured, in which case you can submit a support request via support@practice-labs.com.
I hope this helps and please let us know if you need more help!
