Error: You have reached your maximum number of downloads

Hello all,

Until recently I was able to download courses from the ITProTV website, but when I logged in this evening, any attempts at downloading courses led to this error message. This is unexpected as there is no mention of any kind of limit to downloaded courses in the terms of service or help/FAQ pages. I am unable to find any information anywhere about it, actually. Does anyone know anything about this limit? What is it, where is it announced and why wasn't I notified of it before I signed up?

If I am going to be prevented from downloading videos, I will be quite annoyed as I am very limited in my ability to use streaming, and specifically paid the annual membership fee so that I could download content.

Appreciate any insights that the forum can provide on this.

I contacted support as Ronnie has mentioned. Their reply was this:

"Good morning Brock,

Thank you for writing in to us! We apologize for any disruptions in your studies this may have caused. Our team recently implemented this download limit to protect our content, and it went effect at the beginning of October. For any given 30 days, 250 downloads will be the maximum allowed.

We chose a limit that is high enough to allow our members to watch all the content they might need in a 30 day period, based on our course lengths and our member's average usage. This limit does not affect the ability to stream content, and will automatically reset after the 30 days have passed.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!"

So for all us who were used to unlimited downloads that is no longer possible. Along with ITProTV no longer supporting Amazon Firestick, this may or may not impact your decision to continue subscribing.

For me these are too radical of changes and will need to sit and see if they reverse these poor decisions. If not, I will no longer be a subscriber of this service - there are many other options for IT training. Just because I like this service, doesn't mean I won't stop subscribing.

Sorry to hear about the frustrations you are having. Let me provide some transparency for you to help you understand why these changes occurred. Less than 0.03% of our users are affected by this new download governor. As our Member Services team stated in the chat, we chose a limit that is high enough to allow our members to watch all the content they might need in a 30 day period, based on our course lengths and our member's average usage. This limit does not affect the ability to stream content. We still have the best download policy of any IT training platform and no competitor comes close to providing DRM free downloads with this much ease. We are simply aiming to protect our intellectual property.
In regards to Fire stick support, our usage was extremely low in the user base. To continue to develop and support the Fire stick app would have meant a loss of quality in services in other areas, so we instead focused on making the flagship iOS, Roku and Android apps all a better experience.
We hope you like our content enough to overcome these challenges and hope you understand that the intent of these changes is to keep your prices where they are by allocating our existing resources efficiently and with best intentions.
