Hi, Am trying to install a child domain to my existing domain controller but am getting a error message at the end of the installation wizard when promoting the active directory (error msg" active directory was installed or removed" ). This is strange because it is a fresh install.

I need some more information so I can help.
Are you trying to create a child domain, or add a second domain controller to an existing domain?
I'm assuming you've installed the role, and are running the post-deployment configuration wizard

Hi Mike,Yes I am trying to create a child domain. I've watch the video "Configure a Complex AD Environment" have gone through every step exactly as in the video. The issue is at the end of the wizard when it is installing the child domain to my main domain controller.
As it starts installing it disjoint to the main domain and an blue error pops up on the screen with a message " can not install the active directory it was either installed or removed".
Afterwards it restarts it self and the machine is removed from the main domain controller i have to log in as administrator I can't use my account cause i am no longer connected to the active directory on my main domain.

Sorry for the delayed response, I wanted watch the episode, and recreate the lab to test the steps. They worked in my lab environment, so lets see where it is failing for you.
More information will be helpful, so I can refer to your environment.
- What are the names of the machines?
- Which one is the current domain controller?
- What is the name of your parent domain and child domain?
- Is the one you are promoting a member server of the parent domain?
- Is the account you are using a member of the enterprise admins group?
Also, there should be some log files on the failed dc. Check c:\windows\debug and look for two files, dcpromo.txt and dcpromoui.txt. These will be helpful in trying to determine where things failed.
