I'm going to offer one piece of advice that I think will be helpful. I'm hoping that anyone else can help you with this and more...that I think would have helped me when I did a contract with DoD: "Terminology." Terminology drove me crazy that didn't make sense to my networking knowledge or experience when I had to do this years ago. For example, for me it was: "enclave"--I'm sure there were many more but that one I remember clearly because it was so foreign to me. So I would make sure that I clear on that terminology and relate it clearly to what you understand. That will set you on the right foot. You may have to find someone who's previously done some work like you to help you understand it as well.
They don't expect you to know it all but if you can get the terminology right, it will make a better experience and lot less confusion.
Cordially,
