During the PGP instructional video, I had problems following the segment after exporting the certificate at the 14:30 mark of video. The export certificate shows the file saved in notepad on the desktop. My file saved as a pgp folder on the desktop. Is there a way I could have it saved as notepad. My main goal is to see my PGP key so I can share it with others. Thank you in advance. I am a newbie at encryption.

OPen PGP Question

Hey Randolph,
Sorry you're having some issues with exporting/importing the public key. In the show, we technically didn't save our public key in notepad, we viewed the contents of the public key file using notepad. The file format that Kleopatra exports the public keys in is .asc and that being said I am not sure of how your keys are getting saved as a folder. When you're exporting the key the process should be...Select the key pair
Click Export Certificates (this should open a file browser)
Select the folder where you want to save the file and check the Save as Type to make sure that it is saving as Open PGP Certificates (.asc .gpg .pgp)*
Click SaveOnce you've saved the key, you should be able to right-click on it, choose Open with, and then choose Notepad to see the key data. You don't need to change the file name or file extension at this point as Notepad is just allowing you to view the key data in the file.
If you still have trouble, you can write up a detailed step by step of the export of your public key, I might then be able to find out where the problem is stemming from.
Hope this helps,
Daniel Lowrie
