So i have a dilemma at work. I work for a mortgage company that manly uses PC's which is fine i just prefer macs. Anyway i feel like my boss and the guy i work with don't respect me because i don't know enough Cisco Networking information. I have asked them to help me learn more about the network at my work place but they don't really want to teach me anything and i also don't have the proper links to do my job( me just rambling) I feel like i have to take some sort of certification in order for them to respect more or for them to help me learn more about the network at my work place. I don't know what certification to start with. I plan on taking the Apple ACTC but not until next year. Do ya'll have any recommendations on maybe what certification i should take? I should also say that i am still in college and will be done next summer.

Hello, My suggestion depends on your experience with networking. If you feel confident in networking, then I suggestion you move through our CCENT series, this will review the networking knowledge a network associate should have and introduce you to basics of working with Cisco networking concepts and basic router and switch configuration. This will prepare you for the exam and the next exam too, the CCNA Routing & Switching if you continue with the CCNA series. Also for a little additional cost for the premium cisco labs, you'll have access to real equipment to learn on as well.
If you're not familiar with fundamental networking concepts, I would suggest you work through the CompTIA Network+ series. This will allow provide the foundational knowledge for all that you wish to do in networking and will also help you prepare for the CCENT and the CCNA Routing & Switching.

@Ronnie-Wong thank you for the information. Is there anything else you recommend other then the networking and the ComTIA Networking?
-
If you're going to be supporting end users, I of course would suggest taking a look at the learning the OS your users are running. If you're going to be setting up services and managing Domains and Servers, I recommend you learning Windows Server. We have pretty good training in all the areas we've mentioned. This all depends on your goal and experience. I would also focus in on at least the security basics too, there we also have CompTIA Security+.
But since you asked about cisco, that was my initial response.

thank you.

@Ronnie-Wong do you know if you can take the compTIA test online or do you have to go to a testing center?
-
I don't see an "online" option for the CompTIA exams. I won't say they wouldn't change but as of right now, the best bet is to go to your nearest Pearson Vue testing center. If you create an account with them, they will show you the possibilities near you.
